Description: A striking, small to medium-sized Deciduous tree with a conical habit and smooth grey bark. Narrow, ovate to Elliptic leaves emerge reddish-purple in spring before maturing to dark green. Each leaf can reach to 20cm in length. Pale green fruiting catkins are produced from late summer into autumn and have densely packed Bracts surrounding the fruit. Each catkin can reach to 30cm in length. Carpinus fangiana is relatively new and rare in cultivation.
