Description: A large, Deciduous tree with an upright, conical habit and attractive bark with prominent lenticels. Small, glossy dark green leaves are ovate to oval in shape with finely toothed, undulating margins. Inconspicuous flowers are produced from late spring into early summer. Male and female flowers are produced on the same plants, but separately. The leaves turn yellow in autumn before falling.

Flower:

Monoecious. Inconspicuous, green male and female flowers are produced on the same plant, but separately. Pendent male flowers have prominent stamens.
Female flowers are held close to the branches and are followed by small, round brown fruit.

Cultivation:

Best in full sun to partial shade in fertile, moisture retentive soil that is well drained. Not suitable for shallow chalk soils.
