Description: A herbaceous Perennial with a clump-forming and upright habit. Mid to dark green leaves are lanceolate to linear in shape. Daisy-like flowerheads have petals (ray florets) that are a deep, rich shade of orange. At the centre of each Bloom is a prominent, prickly, red and green cone. The flowerheads are held singly atop sturdy, upright stems and are produced from midsummer into mid-autumn. The Blooms are fragrant and very attractive to pollinating insects. Excellent for use as cut flowers.
The genus name Echinacea is based on the Greek word 'Echinos' for hedgehog, a reference to the prickly centre of the flower.
Flower:
Scented, daisy-like flowerheads have ray florets (petals) that are a rich, deep shade of orange. At the centre of each bloom is a red and green cone composed of disc florets and stiff, pointed bracts. The flowerheads are held singly on upright stems and are produced from July into October.
