Flower:
Large, nodding bowl-shaped flowers are a rich shade of azure blue. Each flower has broad, rounded petals and a prominent central cluster of stamens with golden anthers. The blooms are held singly or in small clusters atop upright stems and are produced in June. The flowers are followed by long, thin seed capsules that are covered in bristles, but contain no viable seed.

Foliage:
Pale green to mid-green leaves are oblong to lanceolate in shape (sometimes Elliptic) and have Dentate margins. The young foliage is tinted reddish-purple when it first emerges in spring. The foliage is covered in fine copper-coloured bristles. The leaves are held at the base of the plant and in opposite pairs on the flowering stems.
