Description: A large Evergreen Shrub or small tree with a conical outline and dense, spreading branches. Glossy, dark green leaves with smooth, spineless margins are ovate to oval in shape and have a leathery texture. Small, white, cup-shaped flowers are held in clusters and produced in late spring. The flowers are followed by attractive, bright red berries. Attractive to pollinating insects and the berries are well-liked by birds. Slow-growing.

Although naturally conical in shape, the specimen at Malverleys has been clipped into a round shape.

Ilex aquifolium is Dioecious (male and female flowers are produced on separate plants). I. a. 'Limsi' is a female cultivar.
