Description: Clump-forming herbaceous Perennial with an upright habit. The attractive leaves are triternate (tripinnate) and a shade of deepest purple, nearly black. Arching Racemes of heavily scented, white flowers are held on dark purple, upright stems in early autumn. The flowers are very attractive to bees and butterflies.

Round, pinkish-red buds open to small white, apetalous flowers with prominent stamens. The flowers are held in racemes on upright stems and are produced in September. The blooms are highly fragrant.
