Digitalis purpurea 'Snow Thimble'
(Foxglove 'Snow Thimble')

Family - Plantaginaceae
Category - Biennial
Season of Interest - Summer
Hardiness - H7
Height - 1.2m or more
Width - 60cm

Description: An upright Biennial that forms large, basal rosettes of mid-green, oblong to ovate leaves in the plant's first year of growth. In the second year, tall vertical flowering stems are produced. The nodding, tubular bell-shaped Blooms are pure white and sometimes have pale green to creamy white speckles on the insides. The flowers are held in Racemes on sturdy, vertical stems and produced in early and midsummer. Excellent for use as cut flowers and attractive to pollinating insects.

Digitalis purpurea is highly toxic if ingested, but it is also the source of digitalin, a drug used to treat heart conditions. Plants can be considered short-lived Perennials if deadheaded immediately after flowering, however, it is generally accepted that better quality plants are produced when treated as a Biennial.
